big big post!

wow.

um. this is another one of those gigantic, numbered posts were i rattle on about anything and everything that I haven't remembered to tell you or had the time to talk about.

So. Let's start with the biggest thing first:

1. SCHOOL!

yup, i'm going back! I'm working hard, I'm making progress, and I'm enjoying myself. i'm taking 5 classes this semester: Business Statistics, Yoga, Accounting, Economics, and a Basic computer competency class.

Yoga is awesome! I wanna keep it up even when i'm not in school anymore. It's very relaxing and envigorating at the same time. You just feel more FREE inside after a workout with it.

My accounting teacher is the kind of 50-something that i hope to one day grow up to be. She's fun, she's witty, she's sharp, but nice, and over all? A joy to be in the classroom with. The class content is also surprisingly fun. ...Don't tell anyone... cause they'd think i'm horribly dull... but accounting seems FUN so far. (Well, it's either the accounting or the crack she slips us when we answer questions correctly in class--but ONE of those two is fun.)

My economics class is taught by a total HAWTIE. (No, Kevin has nothing to worry about... i'm not really into blondes that much.) It just makes it a lot easier to sit through his lectures. While economics isn't the most boring thing ever (though it's certainly close,) having a Proffessor Hawtie McHotterson certainly helps. And get this... his last name? FALCON. Mr. FALCON. ...you don't become an economics teacher with a name like that! you become a SECRET AGENT. DUR! So you can be AGENT FALCON. How awesome is that? And this poor guy is just wasting that opportunity! foolish man!

The computer class is retardedly simple and could be taught by a lemur with a nice pair of lemur loafers. It could be passed by HALF a lemur. It's really... yeah. I go and use it for study hall.

And lastly? Business Stats. The first one on the list and the one i HATE. Not b/c of the math. The math is pretty straightforward. The PROFFESSOR makes me want to choke him with his own ugly neckties. He reads the book aloud for us as "lectures." He uses accompanying power point slides with stupid pictures that don't actually SHOW doing the problems. He expects us to have been born with an innate understanding of Excel. He assigns stuff for us to do with ridiculous deadlines, then doesn't collect it or check it. It's the 3rd week of school and he's FINALLY given us a syllabus--which says we've got a cumulative packet of 3 chapters' worth of homework due just around the corner--homework he never assigned or even HINTED at. He tells us to make graphs that excel doesn't DO-- it has not DOT PLOT FUNCTION. scatter plot? yes. Dot plot? No. Then he just chuckles when we tell him so--and goes "oh well!" like we didnt spend an HOUR of our night trying to find the dot plot function in the stupid program or come in early to see if the school's machines could do it.... Asking him questions is useless b/c the answer is "It's in your book," whether it is or not. OR he'll pick some portion of your question and wax philosophical about it-- he's a mumbler and even worse, one of those people who, when nervous, strings words that SOUND okay together... then you think about them and they make NO SENSE. he told us on the first day that "someday there will be computers that read information right out of our minds, no they already do that." He then chuckled and gestured at us as though he'd made a great revelation and moved on. No one said, "What the hell computers do you have on your planet, sir?" Or even, "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" If he were more competent, i'd say he was testing to see if we were listening--but ugh. no. just...no. I'm learning excel in SPITE of the proffessor. I'm pretty sure that Stats will be the same way. The book IS fairly good, and i now know that it and the interwebs will be my source of knowledge for the whatever tests this bozo may make up.

2. WORK!

The boss had planned to be gone for the summer. Then he tacked on september, then he made plans to return in october, and now? We expect him in November. HA! That guy's just Lucky McLuckLuckerson that Kevin and B and I have everything under control.

We had our gi-normous Labor Day Sale. Kevin, B, and I (with the help of some very wonderful friends!) sifted through about 10,000 back issues. We put them all in alphabetical order by title, then within each title, in numeric order from most recent at the front to oldest at the back. We pulled anything that made a complete story, and bundled them together for a discount price. We pulled out the rares and the valuables and marked them down too. We ordered about 7 grand in trade paperback books (the graphic novels) and got them all displayed nicely. We marked old trade paperback stock down 50% and priced all the action figures at $8 a piece. We had discounts on posters, on manga, on plain back issues that DIDN"T make sets.... it was a metric ASS-LOAD of effort! We also turned a pretty, pretty penny.

The only thing that would have made it better? We had a store associate (he's not one of my lackeys... he's not my boss... he's loosely affiliated with us,) who was supposed to pass out flyers. (Flyers I made, had printed, and picked up from the printer.) All he had to do was get the flyers out to folks who DON"T shop in the store. He never did. Not a one. If B and I hadn't taken flyers across the street to the gaming shop or up to the community college anime and gaming clubs? We would have only handed out flyers to our own customers--people who shop with us anyways! OOOO i was so mad! All that effort and this guy totally let us down.

Thankfully, we made enough money to make a repeat of this year's sale NEXT year. but... it was the principle of the thing.

We've recently had electrical problems. Lots of hoops to jump through there. Then it turns out that we've got a faulty light switch. We had a store with no lights on 1/2 of it for 4 days... we lost sales b/c people weren't browsing... we had to pee in the DARK b/c the bathroom lights were on that circuit. ...and it turns out that we just had a bad on/off switch. Go figure. At least it's fixed.

3. INTERROBANG STUDIOS!

We've hit our one-year anniversary. We're still going strong. My inking has improved... then un-improved... then improved... but not a lot... i dunno. Once i'm out of school, and it's just work and studio, I hope to devote more actual STUDY to inking. Kevin's been busting his butt to get his art in shape. I don't wanna ruin all that hard work with crap-tastic inks.

4. CATS!

Adorable. Visas Murr has taken to playing with little plastic bottle caps. Berlioz lets her curl up with him to sleep. Yzma has finally decided to accept the kitten and can be spotted pretending not to groom her.

5. KEVIN!

Awesome! He's really put a strong effort into his workouts. I'm really proud of him for sticking with it. He's got some stunning ideas for Halloween costumes: a load of us will either be Jedi or Sith from Star Wars. He got a limited edition Star Wars costuming book that contains swatches of the fabrics used for making the costumes from the actual movies. I don't have proof, but i think i caught him singing hymns to it. ;) Like I said above, he's busting his butt on his art studies. The progress he's made in his anatomical studies really show on some of our more muscly characters: Saurkraut or Satan. He's been wonderfully supportive of my "back to school" plans and very helpful around the store. I'm such a lucky girl. :)

6. BELLY DANCING!

Nowhere near as often as I'd like. No $$ for lessons and no time for volunteer work. :( Again, this will be something for AFTER school is done.

7. FANDOM STUFF!

I just haven't had the time to do much (wow, that's becoming a theme.) I still poke some of the forums, and i've tried to keep in touch with my chat group... but my fic is at a standstill and i've not done any art for at least a month now. I've got a little bit of down time tomorrow i think. I'm gonna try to write another chapter of the fic. IT WANTS OUT OF MY HEAD!!

8. CUP CAKES!

Still like'em. Haven't had any for a while. Trying to be good. Though if i came across a flock of them in my bedroom, I doubt i would be able to excercise restraint.

9. REAL WORLD EVENTS!

I'm a liberal. At least. So pardon me while i squeal, but i've found a news reporter who reports the news and a broadcasting company who hasn't fired him or refused to air his work. I'm inspired and entranced by the eloquent delivery and dulcet tones of Mr. Keith Olbermann on NBC. I don't really watch television. Which means this guy is AWESOME, cause i will actually turn on the boob tube to HEAR HIM. ...mind you, he's online too, but i'm not generally patient enough. He has an admitted bais. However, he uses FACTS and sights impartial third-party sources. ...which is really about as fair as anyone can be. I need to make an icon of him--and animated icon of him mouthing the word 'democracy.' It would be sex-eh. ;)

10. WEEKENDS!

This past weekend, I got to go yard-saling with S and her mother and Kevin. It was so fun. I think i spent maybe $4. I got some cookies (which are gone, but were delicious,) a birdie-water whistle, a bear-on-a-swing pencil topper, and an old Burger King Kid's Meal toy of Donatello on a skateboard. Good and Cheap times. Oh. I picked up an un-punctured air mattress too--in a surplus army hiking bag. much fun.

The weekend before last was not so "cheap." The Baltimore Comic Convention rolled through and my money followed it when it left. On the upside, I've got more art work of the TMNT by various artists--and the best idea EVER. There are what's called "Theme" Sketchbooks where you can ask an artist to draw you something on that topic! I saw a most righteous TMNT theme book. And I want one. *lusts.*

This weekend, Blue and I are slated to watch HOUSE season 2. We'll be making a marathon of it. oh yes. OH YES. :D

If there are any facets of my life which i have not covered here to your satisfaction, please do let me know. I'm running out of steam, yet have that nagging feeling I'm neglecting something.

Hope life is treating you well! (yarr.)

Keith Olbermann is HOT! We don't have telivision service right now so we've been watching him online. Some of his commentaries have moved me nearly to tears.

Thanks for the updates! Its good to know you're alive and doing well.

Congrats on the successful transition back into school. Once you've been out for a while it can sometimes be a struggle to pick up again. But having good teachers really helps. But of course we all have to have one stinker per semester, I think it's some kind of Universal Law of Teaching or something. :P
