a customer that doesn't understand that as a business, we can't order books for him for 5 straight months and then just sit on them with no way to contact him.
we cancelled him 3 months ago b/c he'd had $100's of dollars of books on hold and his phone number wouldn't work. That means that he'd had a full box BEFORE the holidays. He only just now showed up.
he's been with us for 13 years (through all the owner changes) ...but if you can't contact someone AND don't see them for about half a year, i think we're entitled to cancel you.
of course, it's apparently our fault. And he's going to give up comics b/c of us.
"I see why people give up collecting comics!"
...no sir, this is not why people give up collecting comics. this is why comic book stores go out of business. You have a responsibility to pick up the books you order in a timely manner.
Of course, i didn't say that. He was pissed enough at me. I didn't need him punching me.
I DID offer to re-instate his box and hunt down all his missing issues AND give him the personal number of the store owner so he could talk to my boss. But apparently "it's too late!"
he says he will never darken my doorstep again.
Between the shouting, the palpable rage, and the fact that the man's face kept changing shades of red into purple... well. I'm ready to go home. thankfully sunday ends at 5pm.
thanks for the worry though. i'm gonna go home and nap heavily before i go to kevin's to ink DI.
Re: *picks up jaw, dusts it off, and hands it back*
Well, its a shame to lose a long-time customer, but he sounds like the sort of customer you don't really need. I'm guilty of being late picking up comics at my local shop, but I only have TMNT subscriptions, my total is usually under $20.00. They also have a working number for me. For all you knew he was dead, or in prison, or overseas, or god know's what.
I hope he was serious about never coming back.

Exactly, what a jackass. I'm sorry you got yelled at and had the threat of possible violence hanging over you because some retard can't drag himself out of Mom's house long enough to come collect what he orders.
I go to my comics shop every time I get paid (twice a month) to pick up whatever's there. If I didn't I'd feel guilty as I know most stores operate in the red most of the time, depending on having people actually show up and pay for what they order.

*hugs*
