Far Point Photos & Life Stuff

February 12, 13, & 14 (Happy Valentine's Day!), we were in Timonium at Far Point 2010!

Thanks to our friends at RobotMartini.com, Gavin & Griff, we were introduced to a most excellent gentleman, Eli, with the Far Point programming department. Eli graciously incorporated us into Far Point's brand new "Do-It-Yourself" track, and welcomed us to do all kinds of panels.

We even worked with Eli and other local comic artists to set up a brand new philanthropic event, THE CHARITY STRIP-OFF. :D

Driving conditions were less than optimal. The driveway was fine. The roads were fine. Even the hotel parking lot was plowed, if icy.

The issues came in on the back alley that leads to our driveway. We got stuck twice: coming home Friday night and coming home Sunday night. The city refuses to plow alleys, so we had lovely ice-gutters and ice-bumps. It was like Mario Ice World without the benefit of penguin suits.

Sally missed Yzma, our mentally-challenged kitty. Blake brought over a special, flexible e-collar to keep her from savaging her own head while we were gone. She had a very tiny scab that she'd picked into a large sore.

She's doing much better now.

Sally's talking about bee-keeping.

Our table formed the outer ring of the open merchant's area. Our booth faced inward, with our backs towards the main corridor of the hotel. Kevin and Sally are manning/womanning the booth, respectively.

This year was Far Point's first Charity Strip Off. In exchange for a donation of $2, donors could pick a blank comic strip out of the donated templates and write the dialogue, color the characters, and generally customize their strip.

The money collected was split between the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Julien Fleming Memorial Fund.

Comic Art templates were provided by:
Gavin of Robot Martini -- Klingon in the Snow Strip
David of Unbearable Bears Presents -- Space Puppy Strip
Kevin of Interrobang Studios -- Con Mascot Vs. Andorian Strip
Sarah of Interrobang Studios -- Con Mascot & Dalek Strip

THANK YOU to all the generous folks who pitched in to make this event happen! <3

Here's Kevin with his strip. The convention mascot, F.A.R.P. (Fully Automated Robot Participant), has a run in with an angry Andorian. You can find the full-view (and maybe try it yourself) in his deviantart gallery

As folks began to finish with their strips, they donated them to the Convention Walls. Eli tells me that the donated strips will be scanned and posted at the Far Point Website.

At last count, the event had raised over a hundred dollars. Way to go, Far Pointers!

This is the comic template I donated to the cause, filled in by Ms. Heather Ackroyd. Heather used bright, bold markers and big handwriting, so the photo I took is totally legible and very funny! :D

Also, Heather requests that you all check out www.WildandBad.com -- where savvy blogger, Mr. Dent, makes savvy commentary.

Our friends at Robot Martini run three webcomics through their site and design card and board games on the side. They were our next-door neighbors at the convention with a big cardboard-shark-box-hat thing on their table.

Of course, this means that the instant Gavin left the table in our care so he could run a panel, Kevin had the shark-box on his head and was dancing about and savaging the passers-by.

We have video of the shark dance at our new YouTube channel.

In addition to this silliness, I'm also job-hunting. I should hear from my most exciting prospect before Tuesday. *Fingers crossed*

Yzma! She's IN the collar because she wouldn't quit picking at the tiny scab near her ear and she'd turned it into a huge scab. My kitty needed a helmet. Kevin thinks she looks like a tiny spitting dinosaur from the first Jurassic Park.

It was very gratifying to have Casey interested in my snow shoveling efforts. I know she's really Kevin's cat, no matter who feeds her. She was fascinated by my shovel and hung out with me pre- and post- digging.

Visas wants you to know that she has many staunch political beliefs, and absolutely no one has stopped to ask her what they are.

It may seem hard to believe, but the cat on the right and the cat on the left are the same cat even though one has a nose and the other does not. Yzma is a world-class illusionist kitty.

I'm glad Farpoint was good! How'd your panels go?
